k so... this contains spoilers, leave speculation below.
Ariel is sick and tired of being captured by the Dark Witch, so in order to end her torture, she tried to delete the game files. She begins by deleting the Woodland Cave files so that the player cannot initiate her getting captured. And so, after seeing the player constantly try to enter, they input a replacement file "ArielMinigm.txt" a hellish monochromatic world filled with clones of Ariel that will chase the player. Once the player makes it to Ariel, Ariel tries to convince the player that they are the Dark Witch, thus the battle begins, after Ariel's defeat in combat, she corrupts the rest of the game world, along with the player's character. Then, she deletes the game itself, making it unplayable.
